Good morning!
If you’re to enjoy the last lumens of the waning crescent moon you’ll need to do it by daylight.
The second crop of mulberries is ripening — much fewer in quantity than late spring, but still good luscious fruit.

  • Many ask: Is there a Labour Day in Canada? Is there a fourth of July?
  • Do you enjoy that French delicacy of Quebec known as Poutine?
    • It’s only been around for little more than half a century, invented supposedly by a customer who specifically asked for the dish.
      • Laurie requires a stop at every Poutine joint between here and Sudbury; I don’t object much.
        • We prefer the fries (chips) crispy but it’s almost impossible to get them any way but soggy, plus then the gravy works against the crisp… but we don’t despair and keep trying.
          • The literal French definition of poutine is mess or messy; get it?
  • I have a friend, a retired CPA, who is an expert at ESOPs and is looking to serve on a couple boards.
    • If you know of a need, this person would be a great candidate — a selfless, erudite contributor.

What are you reading?

    • Lincoln’s Constitution, Farber, 2003 University of Chicago Press.
      • This is a fascinating, highly readable in-depth analysis of what persuaded Lincoln to commence with an all-out war to preserve the union.
        • Would you believe Lincoln’s reasoning and philosophy stretched back to at least 400 years of US philosophy, history, and tradition?
          • And, there were many, perhaps a majority, who agreed with a different philosophy just as steeped in history and tradition; what gives?
  • Who was Andrew Jackson’s Vice President?

Strategy Teaches You to Design Results

  • “Strategy teaches you to design results. That’s right — with simplified strategic planning you define the future.” (Bradford, Duncan, Tracy)
    • “The biggest reason companies (people) don’t do strategic planning is they never get around to it. They let other urgent but often less important things get in the way.”
  • Out of the mouths of babes: “Perfection doesn’t hang around for long, does it?”
  • From The Economist: Few sources of food have changed as dramatically as the chicken.
    • Since the 1950s the size of the chicken has increased fourfold — and it takes only 34 days to grow to full-size.
      • It takes almost no humans to raise the modern chicken most of us eat; it’s all precise programmed technology.
        • The downside: A potentially disastrous recessive gene pool and all our eggs in one basket — so to speak.
  • Since we’re headed into apple season here’s one of those grade school jokes that never gets old:
    • What’s worse than biting into your apple and finding a worm? Finding half a worm!😀
