How do you know when it's time to move on? Be it in personal life, work, or other parts of life, how do you know it's time to make a change?

How do you know when it’s time to move on?

March 1, 2021

Good morning! Let’s just go ahead and call it spring.  It’s March; close enough… even though the temperature is close to zero this morning. If you missed Day #1 at the Dairy Queen you can still get in on Day #4.

How many brooms do you have in your house? Not the whacko-miracle wonder brushes advertised during those two-in-the-morning infomercials, but actual real brooms? The other day I grabbed a broom to sweep up the back porch and I got to thinking about the number of brooms we have. Not counting the less-than-full-size brooms; those are brushes. Remember the Fuller Brush Man? You probably don’t; you need to be older than I and you need to have grown up in an isolated rural area. Conjures up images of Arthur Miller’s Willy Loman, but from a much darker perspective. Turns out we have a dozen or more full-size brooms, but none of them is the perfect broom, all are woefully inadequate to one degree or another. Some are downright disgusting in terms of effectiveness, but how do you throw away a broom?

How do you know when it’s time to move on?

  • A client asked, How do I know when it’s time to move on?
    • Here was part of my answer:
      • “The fact that you’re thinking about it and that you asked the question is a pretty good indicator the answer is yes.”
  • During these times of the COVIDs:
    • “… The test for the Board is, can you keep your eye on the key strategic decisions or transformations you are pursuing, recognizing that management might be reaching the saturation point in what it can manage?”  (Bisson)
  • A friend asked me for a poem about spring.

Can You Pen a Poem to Spring in February?

By Michael A. Mullin

A friend wants a poem

about spring in February

I’m not AmandaIt’s forty-one degrees

but the clouds just sucked the sun out of the afternoon sky

The warm, cozy, comfy feel is gone

Dangit

Puddles, mud, debris and dirty snow depress

Winter’s drab dominatesLife is dormant

No crocuses yet; I just checked

My friend will be disappointed

I’m so sorry

I’ll try again

when the gentle breeze feels

like sensuous sultry lotion on my skin

and my foot is healed.
