7 Years

January 6, 2025

Good morning!

Volume Seven?!?

Does this mean the start of my 7th year in private business?  I think it does.

I don’t know what my chances were back at the beginning, but it feels good to be in the winner’s circle — at least for now.

Thank you for being along on this journey; I really appreciate you.

  • With hardly a thought or a worry we find ourselves having already survived the 32 darkest days of winter.
    • We will persevere through January with our eyes on the next big event, The Feast of Ground Hogs.
  • Is there a terminal velocity to productivity?
    • The United States gained another 8% annualized in the last quarter, spurred in large part by artificial intelligence, the experts suggest.
  • If you enjoy looking backwards, 2024 was a great year to be bullish on cocoa, coffee, and orange juice…
    • … and a good year to be bearish on soybeans (there goes that tofu again!), wheat, and foreign currencies.
  • This just in:   Sisyphus is giving up and going home.  (The New Yorker)
  • You probably know this, but it’s worth repeating for the rest of us:
    • The reason so-called New Year’s Resolutions don’t work for most people the vast majority of the time is…
    • … these commitments to change or growth or better health are externally motivated at best, they don’t come from deep within yourself.
    • To grow or to change or to get better is much more complicated than a random date on the calendar.
    • Rather, purposefully reflect — and find intrinsic motivation.
    • Then, based upon your reflections, choose paths consistent with your north star and your internal compass.
    • Any day of the year — or any hour within the year — can be the right moment for change, growth or better health and happiness.
  • Before you get more anxious than you might already be, let’s get Bradley’s opportunities for wealth out in front of you.
    • Staggering new wealth larger than my brain can imagine; up to $48,000,000,000,000 (trillion!) globally by 2040, he and his team say.
    • These unique categories of industry are defined by high growth and dynamism.
    • So, here you go, if you’re looking for work — and especially if you are entrepreneurially-minded:
      1. E-Commerce
      2. Artificial Intelligence Software and Services
      3. Cloud Services
      4. Electric Vehicles (Yes, still lots of blue sky they say)
      5. Digital Advertising
      6. Semiconductors
      7. Shared Autonomous Vehicles
      8. Space (We are apparently not obligated to let just one guy win!)
      9. Cybersecurity (Sort of goes hand-in-hand with #2 and #3 up above)
      10. Batteries
      11. Modular Construction
      12. Streaming Video
      13. Video Games  (Showing my uninformed bias, this is one I’ve been missing for 50 years!)
      14. Robotics
      15. Biotechnology
      16. Air Mobility (Such as drones)
      17. Obesity Drugs
      18. Nuclear Fission Power  (Bradley, Etc., et al., 2024)
  • Good article on regenerative farming in yesterday’s Minneapolis Tribune (Schleis)
    • Regenerative:  “Relating to the improvement of a place or system.”
