Your knowledge and expertise will be greatly missed. Through your work, influence, and guidance at Cathedral many milestones were achieved… Your exceptional leadership as President of Cathedral brought a time of stability and organization that will never be forgotten; for this we are grateful.”

THE CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS BY UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION, JUNE 20, 2019 – ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA

Mike Mullin is a true Renaissance man – intelligent and creative, with expertise in many areas. He is also one of the best strategic planners I have ever met. He not only sees the big picture, but can articulate a bold and compelling vision, and then chart the course to make that vision a reality. I’ve seen him do it countless times with success in both the non-profit and the business world.”

— DICK BITZAN, OWNER | D.J. BITZAN JEWELERS – ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA

As President of Cathedral, Mike was responsible for the financial strength and stability of the school. In the spring of every year, he presented a balanced budget proposal to the Board of Directors. Mike managed the delicate balance between keeping tuition manageable, paying employees a just wage, and maintaining aging buildings. Every year, Mike was able to add to scholarship money, keeping Cathedral affordable for many families. Cathedral’s budget has been in the black since Mike came here eight years ago. Mike’s door has always been open — to parents, teachers, administrators and friends of Cathedral. He has shared his wisdom, experience and his willingness to work hard.

– LYNN GREWING, PRINCIPAL | THE CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL – ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA

Mike is a natural leader.  He recently served as Rotary District Governor and he did an outstanding job.  Mike was responsible for 62 Clubs and a membership in excess of 3,200 Rotarians.  He was also responsible for the Rotary Foundation fund raising that year and was able to raise almost one million dollars… this is the highest sum in the history of our District.

— BILL MANEY, OWNER | MANEY INTERNATIONAL – ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA

Mike served in various roles for Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity including Board member, Board President, and also Chair of our Resource Development Committee.  Thanks to Mike’s leadership and guidance, we doubled the number of families we served each year, doubled the number of contributed income dollars to Habitat for Humanity International, and most of all, created a strategic and sustainable fund development plan that engaged our Board, volunteers, community members, and donors.  We couldn’t have done it without him.

— ANNE WALTERS, GIRL SCOUTS RIVER VALLEY – ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA (FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT ST. CLOUD HABITAT FOR HUMANITY)

Michael was a key figure in the journey of bringing Saint Augustine’s College (Nassau, NP, Bahamas) into an independent status within the Archdiocese of Nassau.  The path was step-wise, and he could not have done his work more perfectly.  He was invaluable as a liaison between the school, the board, its administration, Saint Augustine’s Monastery, and me as abbot.  Simply said, our plan would never have worked without Mike’s skilled work.  He was invaluable in the development of a board that had the capacity to lead Saint Augustine’s College into the future.

— ABBOT JOHN KLASSEN, OSB – COLLEGEVILLE, MINNESOTA

Mike was always looking for ways to strengthen the programs he was involved with. His communication and other skills were used to effectively move forward facility upgrades, construction projects, funding for programs, and friendship-building for the school. He was busy from early morning to late evening and yet always had time for a friendly visit or to discuss an idea.

— JOSIE STANG | SAINT JOHN’S ABBEY – COLLEGEVILLE, MINNESOTA

Michael has always been a mentor to me.  Since first meeting him 25 years ago, he has always exuded ‘WOW’ factors that I have tried to emulate in my career.  In my role as Executive Vice President of a $1.5 billion company, we would have been blessed by his presence on our executive leadership team providing strategic corporate direction, accountability for action, and leading with cultural purpose.

— TIM WENSMAN, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT (RETIRED), GOLD’N PLUMP CO. – ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA

Some years ago a family member suggested I get to know Mike Mullin because he was an interesting Renaissance man with a keen intellect. That assessment proved to be true. I discovered that Mike was curious, well read, and knowledgeable in many areas. Whether speaking or writing, Mike was a masterful communicator, forthright and diplomatic… Mike’s combination of industry and finesse served the school so well it is still reaping the benefits.

— PEGGY RICE MARRIN, VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT | HIGHER ED HOLDINGS – DALLAS, TEXAS

Mike is an extraordinary individual and professional. He is a natural leader. He leads from a set of deeply held personal values. His greatest gift is his ability to see and build the potential in others and organizations when they may not have seen it themselves and then help them achieve what would have seemed impossible.

— TOM HARK, PRESIDENT & CHAIR | CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS, USA

[Mike] is one of the most well-rounded readers I have ever met… And then came strategic planning for the future, a future that he envisioned would secure stability for the school. It was aggressive, but achievable. Never during my life (I’m over 70) had there been a visionary so dedicated to Catholic education in this community. And what’s more, he made his vision a reality.

— PETER DONOHUE, DONOHUE NOVAK AT LAW – ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA

Mike was President of Cathedral for eight years and then President Emeritus. Among the many gifts he shared with the Cathedral community, the most significant may have been the priority he placed on communication and being present… he made sure he was available and kept all of us informed, never letting us forget that each of us mattered.
